Hi everyone! Welcome to my primary bedroom tour! I am ashamed to say that I spend most of my time in this cozy and maximalist space.
Bedroom Before & After Transformation
A lot has changed in this room since we moved in and the before and after photos are insane. One thing we did not want to change is the beautiful wood trim that is in remarkably good condition considering the age of our home.
We’ve made great progress in transforming our bedroom, starting with a fresh coat of paint. But we’re not stopping there!
One of our long-term dreams is to convert our attached garage into an additional bedroom, complete with a second bathroom to create a true primary suite, but for right now, we’re working with just one bathroom near the back door aways from our room, so having an en suite would be a game-changer for us.
Furniture with a Story: The Heart of Our Primary Bedroom
As we dream about expanding our space, the furniture in our current bedroom holds the history of our home. Each piece of furniture in our bedroom has a story to tell. I cannot wait to share the story of making these design decisions with you!
Each piece of furniture in our primary bedroom isn’t just functional; it’s a part of our home’s history.
Matching Mid-Century Modern Dressers & Nightstand
Originally tucked away in the guest bedroom, our matching mid-century modern dresser and nightstand set found their true home with us in the main bedroom. The sleek lines and gold tear-drop handles immediately drew me in, and they’ve become the cornerstone of our room’s design.
Although I haven’t nailed down the manufacturer, the style closely resembles Kent Coffey pieces, adding a layer of mystery and charm to their story. The set was likely purchased by the home’s original owners between the 1950s and 1970s, giving them a rich history we’re proud to continue.
The Mismatched, but meaningful Bedside Tables
Due to the dresser set being designed for a full-sized bed, we only have one matching nightstand. Taylor claimed it, and I’ve made do with a C-shaped table.
The mismatch doesn’t bother me, though—the mid-century nightstand’s drawer is perfect for Taylor’s needs, and my table keeps things light and airy on my side. Plus, our matching lamps, with their delicate pink and green floral designs and wooden accents, bring the whole setup together beautifully. The lamps were originally in the living room.
The Bed – A New Centerpiece for Comfort
The only piece of furniture in this room that we purchased new is the king-sized bed frame, mattress, and box spring. Before this, we slept on an old four-post bed with a well-worn mattress, but we finally decided to invest in something better.
Tempurpedic Mattress
After trying a Tempurpedic mattress at my boss’s house, we knew it was exactly what we wanted. We financed our Tempurpedic Mattress and box spring over three years at 0 percent interest, which made splurging on the firm TEMPUR-breeze° 8° Cooler LuxeBreeze in king size an easy decision.
It was definitely a significant investment, but the difference in our sleep quality has been incredible—we genuinely sleep better than ever before.
Bedframe & Linens
We paired the mattress with a tufted upholstered bed frame from Wayfair. While the quality is what you’d expect from an online purchase, it suits our needs for now. The dark green duvet and matching shams, sourced from Amazon, create a calming atmosphere, and I love how we can switch up the look by removing the accent pillows.
Art-Deco Waterfall Vanity
The Art-Deco waterfall vanity is undoubtedly the pièce de résistance of our bedroom. This stunning piece came with the house, originally residing in the upstairs bedroom of the former owners’ daughters. Its circular mirror, though showing minor signs of age, adds to its charm.
When we moved the vanity downstairs, I accidentally broke the backing behind the mirror, but thankfully, Taylor and my dad were able to repair it by adding extra support. Now, the vanity stands proudly with its four deep drawers, perfectly holding my makeup palettes and compacts.
I often find myself imagining the women who used this vanity before me. What were their beauty routines like? Did they cherish this piece as much as I do? It feels like a relic of the past, connecting me to the history of our home.
Future Bedroom Plans
We’ve already made some progress on our bedroom projects, starting with a fresh coat of paint. We chose a beautiful shade from Lowe’s that’s white with just a drop of green—it brightens the room while adding a subtle touch of color.
Looking ahead, here are my top three projects for the next year:
- Add Some Rugs: I’m on the hunt for a Persian-style rug or runners to cozy up the space.
- Collect More Art: We want to find pieces that resonate with both of us to bring more personality to the room.
- Reorganize Storage: Optimizing closet and drawer space is next on the list.
While there are still a few things on the horizon, we’re proud of how far this room has come and excited for what’s next. I hope this tour has inspired you to create a space that tells your own story, filled with pieces that bring you comfort and joy.
I’ll keep you updated as we make more changes and bring this space closer to our dream bedroom!
